Why Kelp Matters
- Giant kelp forests are Critically Endangered in Australia
- They provide habitat for abalone, rock lobster, fish, seals, and the iconic penguins of Phillip Island
- They're among the fastest growing organisms on Earth (up to 1 metre per day)
- They store and cycle significant amounts of carbon, helping to combat impacts of climate change
- They enhance coastal conditions—including wave quality for surfing
